Using Local Newspapers to Find Apartments

Dave Aiello writes, "My fiancee and I are getting married in July, so we are in the process of looking for an apartment or a condo in Central New Jersey. This is the first place where we will live together. I thought I might share the research experience, in case it might benefit other alumni."

"A couple of weeks ago, I went through the process of identifying newspaper-related Web Sites in New Jersey. This was helpful because it gave us an idea of places where Real Estate ads would be run. One thing we noticed fairly quickly was that the 'dead trees version' of the newspaper is often a better source of current real estate ads than the Web Site, even when the Web Site purports to carry Classifieds. This was certainly the case with The Princeton Packet."

"Don't rule out the weeklies and bi-weeklies. The Princeton Packet is a great source of leads on rentals from New Hope, Pennsylvania (slightly NW of Trenton), east to Hightstown, NJ (the town where New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8 is located). This is the resource we are using almost exclusively."

"If anyone has any questions about searching for rental housing in the Princeton or Morristown areas (where I am moving and where I currently live), please email me at dave_aiello@ctdata.com and I will try to assist you."
